About

About Twin Birch Dairy

Purchased at auction in 1960 by CEO Dirk Young’s parents, Ken & Georgienna Young, the farm has grown in cow numbers, acreage, and employees over the last 60+ years. Throughout that time, the farm has been acknowledged for its innovative implementation and utilization of cutting edge practices benefiting herd health, the environment, and the bottom line. Dirk, together with next-generation partners Todd Evans and Jeremy Brown, are carrying on the tradition of a job well done, all while keeping their commitment to sustaining agriculture in Central New York alive and well.

Our Cows

Our 1,530 Holsteins are milked three times a day and consistently rank in the Top 2 herds in Onondaga County. Producing an average of 4.0% butterfat, 3.1% protein, and 29,957 pounds of milk per cow each year, Twin Birch Dairy utilizes the most beneficial and progressive practices offered to help reach our goals. To supplement nutritional needs, over 3,000 acres of non-GMO crops are grown, including alfalfa, corn, wheat, and soybeans. Veterinarians, nutritionists, and consultants provide trusted advice for best results while our zero-tolerance policy ensures all animals are treated with care and respect.

Our Milk

While you might not see our fluid milk for sale on the grocery shelf, you may have consumed it in a variety of other products like protein bars, soups, and sports drinks. Each year, we produce approximately 40 million pounds of milk, picked up every 14 hours and hauled to our farmer-owned corporation Cayuga Milk Ingredients just 12 miles away. There, its processed and distributed as dry protein product to over 20 countries worldwide. Click HERE to read more about how our milk is processed and where in the world it goes!

Our Philosophy

Twin Birch lives by its mission statement by striving to operate an environmentally-friendly farm in a manner that is perceived by neighbors and our community as an asset to the area. Sustainability practices include crop rotation, erosion control, no-till and cover crop planting. We even create and utilize electricity produced from the herd’s manure! Located between the beautiful Skaneateles and Owasco Finger Lakes, we also believe in keeping waterways clean and water quality a priority for the benefit of all.
